EPISODE #203: ADDICTED TO THE WORLD—THE BELIEF UNDERNEATH EVERY CRAVING

What if the addiction you judge in someone else is the same addiction sitting in yourself?

We hear the word “addict” and the mind makes a list: alcoholics, drug abusers, and sex addicts. The judgmental mind claims these people are ruining their lives and everyone around them. The ego steps onto its pedestal and states, “They can’t get it together, but I can.”

In this episode, let’s level the playing field. Whether we know it or not, we are all addicts. We are all addicted to the world of separation, to the mind’s obsessive thinking, and to the belief underneath every single craving.

Today we look at:

  • The cover story. The ego says the body is doing the using. It projects outside of itself, making the problem and the solution appear out in the world. Chocolate, energy drinks, cocktails, weed, or mindless scrolling are the same escape in a different costume.

  • The psychological view. Addiction begins with a pain. The mind wants relief, so it escapes into a desired substance, and a repetitive cycle is born. Unmet needs, trauma, and a fried nervous system look like the cause. Useful, and true on this therapeutic level. But is there a greater cause beyond the separate self?

  • The Course in Miracles view. The original addiction is the belief that separation is real. Special love was never going to replace the love of God. Going back into the mind and forgiving the original error is where a true healing journey begins.

If something is running your life, get help in the world. The Course never asks you to deny a problem. It only asks you to see what the craving is covering up, so you can begin to undo the ego’s false belief system and return to real love.

Listen now, and share it with someone ready to see addiction in a new light.
